| Queens is a great area to live in. Queens is made up of many different communitites, each with their own unique special attributes that accommodate all types of interests. Queens remains an affordable solution to Manhattan, while offering one of the best school districts in NYC, District 26. With multiple ways commute, Queens provides easy access to the city, without the hassle and expensive costs of living. Queens is a diverse area that holds culture specific houses of worship, dining and shopping, all convenient to each neighborhood. Located on the western portion of Long Island, Queens is home to two of the three major New York City area airports, JFK International Airport and LaGuardia Airport. It is also the location of the New York Mets baseball team, the US Open tennis tournament, Flushing Meadows Park, Kaufman Astoria Studios, Silvercup Studios, and Aqueduct Racetrack. Queens is made up of areas that are concentrated with single family residential homes (Bellrose, Floral Park, Hollis Hills, Hollis Wood, Jamaica Estates, Kew Gardens, Little Neck, Douglaston, Beechhurst, WhiteStone, Flushing, Fresh Meadows) and areas that contain mostly co-op/multi-family/garden apartment communities (Briarwood, Kew Garden Hills, Forest Hills, Rego Park, Bayside, etc). All of which offer unique comfortable environments to suit anyone's lifestyle. There is less congestion, a central mall, pools, gyms, basketball courts, train stations, 2 major airports and many express lines all ready to be utilized. Fresh Meadows is a nice community in the center of Queens. It has one of the best school districts in New York City, District 26 and is home to St. Francis Prepatory School which is the larges Catholic high school in the United States. Public Schools include Francis Lewis High School, George J. Ryan Middle school, Rufus King school & the Fresh Meadows School. Also St. John's University. Fresh Meadows is served by NYC Transit bus lines for transportation. This is a mostly residential housed community but also has co-ops available.
Jamaica Estates is a mostly high end, residential area, and some garden apartments. The schools here include The Holliswood School, The Abigail Adams School, The Mary Louis Academy, Immaculate Conception School, Yeshiva University High School for Girls , United Nations International School. The area has a history of doing well in competitive sports and teams there have won championships in tee ball, soccer, boys baseball, girls softball, and hockey. Transportation is a breeze in Jamaica Estates as the NYC Subway's IND Queens Blvd line (179th st Station) is located conveniently at Midland Parkway and Hillside Avenue, with another station (169th Street F) located on the corner of Hillside Avenue and Homelawn Street. Jamaica Estates also is served by NYC bus lines.
Bayside is a nice high-rise/garden apartment setting neighborhood with well kept homes and landscaping. It was a contender for CNN Money's ranking of Best Places to Live in 2005 and also Best Places to Retire in 2005. It is conveniently located near several expressways and other transportation services. Schools include: Bayside High School, Benjamin Cardozo High School, Bell Academy, Queensborough Community College and many more, as it is also a part of the District 26.
Briarwood is a small urban/suburb community that is known to be inexpensive and provides affordable housing for families. Its very cozy and has many small restaurants, delis, markets, and other small businesses. Some of the schools there are: Archbishop Molloy High School and Robert A. Van Wyck M.S.
Kew Gardens is a very accessible neighborhood due to its surrounding expressways and the Union Turnpike-Kew Gardens subway station. This makes the commute to Manhattan minimized to only about 30 minutes. Kew Gardens is a planned garden community that has mainly apartment buildings throughout. Kew Gardens is also close to the airport. This is a very diverse neighborhood and has many ethnic dining opportunities.
